(Federal Shutdown is almost a month long)....This week the County Board of Supervisors discussed the local impacts from the shutdown.
Imperial County Social Services Director Paula Llanas told the Board there were about 50,000 individuals in the county who rely on Cal Fresh benefits. She said those individuals would not be receiving their November benefits. Those people will be forced to buy food, and that means they will not be able to afford housing or utilities. Llanas said the Governor is offering some assistance. The Governor has announced more than $80 million will be sent to local food banks around the state. The Imperial Valley Food Bank is receiving $950,000 of those funds. Llanas said the amount will be nowhere near enough to cover all the needs that we are going to have in Imperial County. They are going to need donations. The Supervisors encouraged volunteers to help out, and even ask people to adopt a child to provide them with food
