Juneteenth is a federal holiday.

Juneteenth celebrates the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation and began in the years following the American Civil War. As a federal holiday, federal offices will be closed. There will be no mail service, state and local governments will close all non-essential agencies, banks will be closed and the stock market will close. Most retailers and non-government agencies will remain open.

The Imperial Valley Social Justice Committee will host a community celebration at the Martin Luther King Sports Pavillion in El Centro. The event will feature multicultural live music, local vendors, and soul food. There will be a Kid's Corner Arts and Crafts Zone and the presentation of the Opal Lee Award to local leaders.
