A Thursday afternoon traffic accident caused a two hour closure of westbound Interstate 8 near Ogilby Road.
The accident occurred at noon when a westbound SUV collided with a trailer that was on the right shoulder of the road. The SUV had reportedly been passing other vehicles on the shoulder before the collision. The accident blocked both westbound lanes as emergency crews worked at the scene. The driver of the SUV was air lifted to Desert Regional Medical Center. Both lanes of the freeway were reopened at 2:30 p.m. The driver was charged with Driving Under the Influence. The accident remains under investigation.
