Congressman Raul Ruiz conducted an oversight visit at the Imperial Regional Detention Facility Tuesday.

The Congressman, an emergency physician, visited the local facility to evaluate medical care, living conditions, and the treatment of individuals in custody. Dr. Ruz said, " Today's visit was about oversight and accountability. Last year was one of the deadliest years for immigration detention in more than two decades, with more than 56 people dying in ICE and CBP custody including deaths connected to this facility". The congressman is the author of a bill before Congress titled Humanitarian Standards for Living Individuals in ICE and CBP Custody Act.
