(National Defense Area established)...Recently the Department of Defense designated land near the border to be controlled by the US Military.

The El Centro Sector Border Patrol has announced the areas to become an extension of the Naval Air Facility El Centro. The designated land stretches 60 feet North of the US/Mexico Border. The designation allows the Department of Defense authority to enforce federal la within the boundary of the NDA. That allows US military personnel to temporarily detain people violating the NDA for the US Border Patrol to check their immigration status. It also permits US Border Patrol to criminally charge those trespassing in the NDA. Signs will be posted throughout the NDA explaining everything in English and in Spanish.
