A Yuma man is dead following an officer involved shooting Wednesday night.
According to the Yuma Police Department, two YPD officers were conducting surveillance at a residence suspected in drug-related activity. The officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle seen leaving the area. The vehicle was located near 16th Avenue and Colorado Street where the vehicle entered an alley. The officers attempted to contact the driver and remove him from the vehicle. Preliminary review of video evidence, the driver apparently pinned one of the officers against a fence, and then began moving towards the second officer. Both officers fired at the driver, striking him. The driver, 58-year-old Sergio Mencia Ramos, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 42-year-old man, a passenger in the vehicle, was not injured. The incident is being investigated by the Yuma Regional Critical Incident Response Team and reviewed by the Yuma County Attorney's Office.
