A Brawley man has been charged in the death of a 5-year-old child.

On January 8, 2026, Brawley Police responded to a call for medical service at about 7:30 p.m. The report was that a 5-year-old child at a residence in the 300 block of South 18th Street was unresponsive. The child was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital where the child died. The Brawley Police Department Investigations Team took on the case and were able to determine from information developed that there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. An autopsy confirmed  that the child's death was a homicide. Based on the findings, Isaac Elizondo, the child's mother's live-in boyfriend, was arrested on charges of homicide. The investigation is continuing.
