(Investigation into what caused the Christmas Day fire).....The fire destroyed the Denny's Restaurant in Calexico.

Officials say the fire was reported at around 7 am on Christmas Day. Employees noticed smoke coming out of the ceiling over the Mechanics Room. Calexico Fire arrived and evacuated the building. Everyone got out safely. No injuries were reported. Back-up was called in and departments from the County,, El Centro, Holtville and Calipatria responded to assisted Calexico Fire. The fire spread throughout the ceiling of the restaurant. Crews worked feverishly to extinguish the fire, but not before it caused extensive damage. The investigation continues to determine what caused the fire in the ceiling. The owners of the restaurant have reportedly said they plan to rebuild the establishment.
