. The report indicates the Burrowing Owl Populations remain healthy, stable and Increasing. The report concludes the best available science suggests listing the species under the California Endangered Species Act is not warranted at this time. The Imperial Irrigation District says the newly released report confirms that Western Burrowing Owl Populations in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys remain healthy, stable, and in some areas, increasing. The report covers 30 years of monitoring. The report indicates there are more than 7,100 breeding pairs. In the Coachella Valley says breeding pairs have gone from near zero in the 1990's to more than 300 today. The report has been submitted to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for review and consideration.
